The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have confirmed that further investigations are being conducted regarding Mpho Makola's behavior during the 2019 Telkom Knockout first round after physically abusing referee Abongile Tom.
Makola had a moment of outrage during Cape Town City's Telkom Knockout clash against Kaizer Chiefs. Makola was caught in the act of pushing Abongile Tom with two hands directly in the chest‚ causing Tom to stumble while also hurling comments at the young referee following a penalty call that went against the Citizens after Taariq Fielies' handball in his own area.
“The matter is now with the PSL prosecutor and he is looking into it. There is nothing else I can say in this matter‚” said PSL spokesperson Luxolo September.
Makola looks set be charged for misconduct or violent play breaches and will likely have to soon stand before the PSL's disciplinary committee.
