Cape Town City head coach Benni McCarthy didn’t hold back in his assessment of referee Abongile Tom’s performance claiming the man in the middle was useless.
“The referee was terrible today, he might as well have put on a Kaizer Chiefs shirt and then I hear he is from Cape Town so he had to prove a point that he was not being biased?
“But I think he forced the issue a little bit, I think there could have been far more incidents and he just wanted to show that he is from Cape Town and that’s it,” McCarthy told the media following the game.
“It was a one way traffic, Craig Martin was getting chopped left, right and centre and people are saying that we should have been a player less and the referee let us off the hook?
“What can you do? The minute you ask, you are told, ‘hush or I send you off’ – so they want to have those kinds of powers and coaches must say nothing? They were useless today, no wonder Chiefs won, it was a one-way traffic as it’s been in the last few games for Kaizer Chiefs."
